Earlier today, Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Dean Phillips announced the hire of two senior advisers from prominent progressive campaigns.
Phillips has enlisted the expertise of former Bernie Sanders national press secretary Symone Sanders and Andrew Yang’s former communications director S.Y. Lee to join his team. Symone Sanders will serve as Senior Adviser and Spokesperson on Phillips’ Senate campaign while Lee will serve as Communications Director.
“I’m proud to announce the addition of Symone and S.Y. to our growing team,” said Dean Phillips. “Their vast experience working for these historic progressive campaigns will be a major asset to our own efforts to bring much-needed reform to Washington.”
Symone Sanders was a senior adviser to Bernie Sanders’ 2016 and 2020 presidential runs. She prepared the Senator for major interviews and debates, and was the head of several aspects of the campaign’s press and communications efforts. Lee was a key staffer on Andrew Yang’s 2020 presidential campaign. In this role he managed a nationwide press team, planned media interviews and events, and steered the direction of the campaign’s messaging.
“As people living in a dynamically changing society, we need to invest in our future to ensure our nation’s stability,” said Symone Sanders. “I am proud to join Dean Murphy’s campaign in order to help him bring about the progressive change our nation deserves.”
Lee echoed Symone’s remarks: “We are at a crossroads and we need leadership that is ready to tackle the tough issues and take our country in a new direction. Dean Phillips has the vision and the leadership skills to do so. I’m excited to join his team and help get the word out about his candidacy.”
The addition of Symone and S.Y. to Dean Phillips’ campaign continues his momentum and his efforts to build a staff of diverse advisers. Their expertise should prove to be an invaluable asset to the campaign as it moves towards election day.
