In a major financial show of strength, President Joe Biden’s campaign and committees related to his reelection effort raised a staggering $71 million during the third quarter of this year. It surpasses the record $60 million haul his campaign brought in during the second quarter, and the $34 million it raised during the first quarter.
The overwhelming fundraising efforts from Biden’s campaign and committees highlights a marked contrast to President Trump’s fundraising efforts. Trump’s campaign and committees were out-paced three-fold, as Trump reportedly only raised $24 million in the third quarter.
This massive influx of donations will give Biden’s campaign the opportunity to invest further in digital ad initiatives, get-out-the-vote outreach, and various operational costs, such as staff and equipment. The Biden campaign has already used the donations to invest heavily in digital ads, leading to a substantial presence on platforms like Google and YouTube.
The latest donations also make Biden’s campaign the first Democratic presidential candidate to raise over $200 million in a single quarter. “Our grassroots movement is powering this campaign, and the continued investment of millions of Americans in our work is supporting President Biden’s efforts to lead our country out of the crises we’re facing — from the coronavirus pandemic to the economic downturn to systemic racism and climate change — and build back better,” said deputy campaign manager Remy C. Smidt.
As the fundraising efforts continue to pour in, Biden’s campaign and committees remain well-funded as they move into the final weeks of the 2020 election.
