Hunter Biden, the son of former Vice President Joe Biden, is expected to plead not guilty on Monday to federal gun charges related to his alleged possession and purchase of a firearm without a valid license.
The charges against Hunter Biden stem from an incident that occurred in October 2019 when he reportedly traveled to Turkey and attempted to purchase a handgun from a local firearms dealer. Hunter Biden was arrested upon his return to the United States at a Delaware airport and subsequently charged with unlawfully possessing a gun that was purchased while he was in another country. In addition, he was charged with unlicensed possession of a firearm by someone with a prior felony conviction.
If found guilty, Hunter Biden could face serious consequences which include up to 10 years in prison. He is currently free on $25,000 bond and is expected to appear in court via video conference on Monday for his arraignment.
Defense attorneys for Hunter Biden have argued that the charges against him are politically motivated and have requested that the case be dismissed. They claim that the charges are instead part of a larger “misinformation operation” to discredit his father Joe Biden ahead of the 2020 U.S. presidential election.
As the case proceeds, the legal ramifications for Hunter Biden remain uncertain. However, it is clear that he is in a precarious position as the charges carry serious penalties should he be found guilty. It is expected that Hunter wilib on Monday in court, enter a plea of not guilty and seek a resolution in the matter.
