House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s stance on President Joe Biden’s impeachment may shock a lot of people. Despite the fact that Biden was a close friend of hers, she seems to be standing by the Democratic Party in asserting that the president’s impeachment should not be off the table.
This news came as a surprise to many, as she was chancellor of the party that lineally opposed Donald Trump’s impeachment. However, Pelosi is taking a different approach when it comes to Biden.
In a recent press conference, Pelosi argued that “discussions on potential impeachment should not be seen as political.” This is to say that any action taken needs to be done in accordance with ethical standards, rather than partisan standings.
What’s also important to note is Pelosi’s insistence that there should be no bias in the congressional process. She argued that the rules that be followed should be consistent regardless of whether the impeachment is of a Republican or Democratic President.
Even so, Pelosi believes that it would be “wrong” to pursue impeachment against a president of the same party. Instead, she advocates that it should only take place in the event of “true and proven wrongdoing”– the type of allegations that all parties agree should be met with impeachment.
In the wake of this statement, many can’t help but question the Speaker’s position. Although Pelosi states that discussions on Biden’s impeachment shouldn’t be about politics, a lot of people aren’t convinced. Still, her comment on the matter has raised eyebrows and sparked plenty of debate.
What’s certain is that it’s difficult to tell what Pelosi’s true position is. Until the potential impeachment case is presented, it’s unclear whether her stance will end up being strictly ideological or not. In the meantime, all eyes are on House Speaker Pelosi to see how she steers the discussion further forward.
