Delta Air Lines is back in the news with the latest tweaks to its frequent flyer program. After receiving a lot of backlash from customers, the airline has made changes to its SkyMiles program that should result in fewer unhappy flyers.
SkyMiles is Delta’s popular frequent flyer program. It allows members to accumulate miles through flights, hotel stays, car rentals, and credit card purchases. These miles can then be redeemed for tickets and perks like upgrades, airline lounge access, and additional bags.
However, in recent months, customers have complained that the airline’s system for exchanging miles is too complicated and the rewards difficult to redeem. This led to Delta’s recent announcement that it would be making changes to the program, including the removal of the controversial “Mileage Earned” Polaris seat pricing structure and the introduction of an “Mileage Redemption” system.
The Mileage Earned system allowed customers to receive more miles by purchasing expensive tickets, but this was seen as unfair by some customers who felt like they were being punished for buying inexpensive tickets. Under the new Mileage Redemption system, customers will be able to redeem their miles for a flat rate regardless of the ticket price.
In addition, Delta has also announced that it will be making changes to the way miles expire. Currently, miles expire 36 months after the last flight activity, but Delta will now include all purchases made using SkyMiles credit cards in determining the expiration date. This should make it easier for customers to keep their miles active.
Delta is also introducing a new feature called “SkyMiles Reimbursement”. This will allow customers to receive “make good” miles for dampened experiences, meaning those with canceled flights, significant delays, and other issues will be able to receive a credit in miles for their troubles.
The airline is also making improvements to customer service when it comes to SkyMiles. This includes the launch of a new customer service portal where customers can easily make inquiries about their SkyMiles accounts and get quick answers.
These latest tweaks to Delta’s SkyMiles program show that the airline is listening to its customers and responding to their feedback. These changes should make the frequent flyer program more attractive and user-friendly, which should result in fewer unhappy flyers in the future.
