After that chaotic incident which happened in the White House involving US President Joe Biden’s new rescue companion, Major, it has been reported that another of the Biden’s pets, Commander, has been exiled from the premises following an alleged biting incident.
The news of Major’s attack was reported on March 8th, 2021 as the German shepherd bit White House staff member, Sullivan, on the hand. The official said the wound was not too serious but the incident caused alarm considering the security breach it could have caused, leading President Biden to take measures in order to ensure that Major was appropriately managed and not a threat to White House Staff.
However, according to news sources, another biting incident occurred one week after Major’s attack and this time it was Commander who was the culprit. Commander, a two year-old German shepherd, is the latest addition to the Biden family who joined the pack with Major, Champ and Major’s sister, named Amy.
It has been reported that Commander bit another White House staffer in the East Wing of the White House, causing mild injuries. The staffer was treated and the injured area was treated. President Biden’s statement on the incident reveals that he took immediate action in order to ensure that such situations are avoided in the future.
Following the incident, Commander has been taken away from the White House and relocated to Biden’s home in Delaware. It is believed that both Major and Commander were rescued from animal shelters and have adjusted well to their new home up until now.
In a statement issued regarding the latest incident, Press Secretary Jen Psaki said,
“The president and first lady are grateful that the individual was not seriously injured. The safety and security of all those who work in the White House Complex remains of utmost importance.”
It is understandable that Biden would take this matter seriously and take measures in order to keep the White House staff safe. The fact that the Biden’s own two rescue animals have caused alarm indicates that taking extra safety precautions are necessary in order to maintain order in the White House.
It is expected that the newly adopted pets will be given more training in order to ensure that they are able to adjust to their new environment and avoid any security risks in the White House.
